Drought Stress Impact on Salvia miltiorrhiza Yield and Quality: A Focus on Stress Tolerance

The yield and quality of Salvia miltiorrhiza are subject to multifarious factors, with drought being a paramount abiotic stressor. It has been substantiated that drought stress engenders a decline in glycolysis and TCA cycle metabolism, as well as biosynthesis of bioactive constituents in the root of S. miltiorrhiza. These perturbations in metabolic homeostasis of plant tissue culminate in a reduction in yield. However, extant research has predominantly concentrated on augmenting the contents of phenolic acids and tanshinones, with scant attention paid to stress tolerance in S. miltiorrhiza.
