Maharashtra government officials have said that Covid-19 surveillance will continue as usual even after the state lifts lockdown restrictions on June 1. The officials said that surveillance teams will visit households to check for Covid-19 symptoms and conduct contact tracing if necessary. They also said that people should continue to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
The officials added that the state will focus on vaccinating as many people as possible to prevent a surge in cases. They urged people to get vaccinated when it is their turn and to not believe in rumours about the vaccine.
Maharashtra has been one of the worst-hit states in India during the Covid-19 pandemic. The state has reported over 5.7 million cases and over 94,000 deaths since the pandemic began.
