This study aims to explore the regularities and characteristics of the spatial distribution changes of the intelligent grid industry enterprises in China. By analyzing the number and scale of intelligent grid industry enterprises and their distribution in different regions, conducting kernel density analysis, spatial correlation analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) Strong regional concentration. Intelligent grid enterprises are mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Since 2005, Hunan Province has gradually developed into a new dense area of intelligent grid enterprises, and the density of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has gradually decreased. Other regions and provinces have few distributions. (2) The higher the degree of urbanization, the more intelligent grid enterprises. The development of intelligent grid industry enterprises is closely related to urban economic development. The development of urban economy will promote the development of the intelligent grid industry, and vice versa. (3) The number and scale of intelligent grid industry enterprises continue to grow, and the number of enterprises is showing a rapid increase trend. Small and micro enterprises dominate in number, large enterprises account for a small proportion, and most of them are state-owned enterprises established earlier. (4) The distribution of key development areas is uneven. Intelligent grid enterprises are more concentrated in the downstream of the industrial chain, such as intelligent distribution, intelligent measurement, intelligent control, and other fields, and the number of enterprises in the middle and upper reaches of the industrial chain is relatively small. (5) Enterprises of different sizes have positive correlations in terms of quantity and space, and there is a strong correlation between small and micro enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, and medium-sized enterprises. Upstream enterprises and midstream enterprises have a strong correlation, and downstream enterprises have a strong correlation with small, micro, and medium-sized enterprises. Based on this, development strategies for the intelligent grid industry and enterprises are proposed: (1) Select sites in provincial capital cities, where there are more enterprises, convenient policies, and geographical advantages, forming an agglomeration effect for smoother development. (2) Large and medium-sized intelligent grid enterprises should drive small and micro enterprises around them, complementing each other in fields and industrial chains to achieve high-quality development. (3) Upstream enterprises can choose to locate in western, central, northern, and other regions of China, leveraging resource advantages, using renewable energy such as wind, water, and solar power to provide electricity, and supporting the development of new energy. (4) Encourage small and medium-sized, downstream enterprises to accelerate technological breakthroughs in intelligent grid, increase publicity efforts, and quickly popularize new energy vehicles, build intelligent charging piles, and realize the intelligent grid system in homes and households
