Investigation into Sewage Discharge from 'TUJU ARROW' in Bohai Bay

On September 7th, following a request from the Maritime Bureau, our inspectors accompanied the captain, chief engineer, and second engineer of the 'TUJU ARROW' to the MSA office. The MSA officers conducted an inquiry into the specific amount of sewage discharged from the vessel during its voyage from Changshu Port to Tianjin.

The crew estimated a total discharge of 1 cubic meter of sewage. This comprised 0.5 cubic meters of untreated sewage discharged in the Bohai Bay area and 0.5 cubic meters of treated sewage discharged while berthed at Tianjin Lingang L12 Terminal.

The MSA officers prepared a detailed situation report, which Captain TEDDY JAMES C. FERNANDEZ (crew certificate number C1289061) signed. The report outlines the timeline of the voyage and the sewage discharge:

• September 3rd, 1306: 'TUJU ARROW' departed Changshu Port.
• September 3rd, 2218: The direct overboard discharge valve for sewage was opened.
• September 5th, 1430: The ship entered the Bohai Sea area.
• September 5th, 2340: The ship began discharging treated sewage through its treatment plant. Approximately 0.5m3 of untreated sewage had already been discharged in the Bohai Sea area.
• September 6th, 0424: 'TUJU ARROW' berthed at Tianjin Lingang L12 Terminal. The overboard discharge valve for domestic sewage remained open until MSA officers boarded the vessel. During this time, approximately 0.5m3 of treated sewage was discharged.

The crew members confirmed the details within the report and signed it accordingly. Following the investigation, the crew returned to their vessel. The incident remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
