小学英语分级阅读课程建设:新课标背景下的实践探索
English graded reading is a student-centered approach that respects the differences in students' reading abilities and allows them to choose materials based on their reading interests. By incorporating graded reading into the school reading curriculum, teachers can stimulate students' reading interests, provide tailored instruction, and achieve the goal of cultivating reading literacy. The 'Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)' strongly advocates for English reading teaching and emphasizes that teachers should dare to break through the constraints of textbooks when developing English curriculum resources. They can use English picture books, short plays, and other materials that match the themes of textbook units, as well as guide students to engage in extracurricular reading, focusing on cultivating and developing reading literacy.
To help the teachers in the studio build an operational, practical, systematic, and scientific English graded reading curriculum and create an efficient English classroom, the English master studio organized all members of the studio to participate in the 'Seminar on the Construction of English Graded Reading Curriculum in Primary Schools under the New Curriculum Standards' held online by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press on September 15, 2023.
On the evening of September 16, at 7:30 p.m., all members of the studio gathered online again to share their learning experiences. The meeting was organized and hosted by the teachers. Everyone spoke freely, discussing various challenges in implementing graded reading, expressing their learning experiences and achievements, and exploring teaching methods for graded reading. Through exploration and exchange, teachers updated their concepts, learned from each other, and improved themselves, creating brilliant sparks of wisdom through intellectual collisions.
The teachers pointed out that the focus of the three teachers' lectures was on integrating picture book teaching with primary school English teaching. Specific methods include sustained silent reading, scaffolding, complementary, and integrated approaches. The teachers said that although methods are now available, how to gradually and effectively implement graded reading in primary school English teaching based on students' individual situations and achieve a breakthrough from 0 to 1 in primary school English graded reading is a question worth discussing. They hope that everyone can work together to gain true knowledge through practice.
Next, the teachers from Group X of the studio shared their reading insights. They combined the requirements of reading ability in the 2022 edition of the new curriculum standards and summarized in detail the content and gains from the lectures by the three teachers. They discussed the necessity of teachers conducting English picture book teaching under the background of the new curriculum, and three modes of integrating English picture books with the main textbooks in the classroom: integration based on thematic significance, integration based on the continuum of reading and writing, and integration based on performance evaluation. They also emphasized the flexible application of the concept of English learning activity observation to guide pre-reading activities, in-reading activities, and post-reading activities in teaching practice.
The chief teacher reviewed the studio's growth over the past year, emphasizing that we have taken solid and firm steps. Through various teaching and research activities, online seminars, and the dedication of each member, core members, and research group leaders, we have promoted teachers' professional growth. At the same time, she emphasized the importance of reading lessons in English teaching and made detailed arrangements for the next stage of work. Activities such as visiting and teaching at Meijiang Central Primary School in late September and participating in city-level lesson competitions in mid-October were outlined, providing direction for our future teaching and research work.
Under the guidance of the studio's master teachers, we have transformed our teaching ideas, updated our educational concepts, and implemented the new curriculum. We have explored teaching methods, tried new teaching organizational forms, and gained comprehensive new knowledge about education and teaching. In the future, we will continue to explore and strive, carrying our original aspirations and dreams in education, and moving forward.
