Dear Tom,

I am very glad to receive your email and I am more than happy to introduce one of the most important traditional festivals in China to you. That is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year.

The Spring Festival is the most important festival for Chinese people. It usually falls on the first day of the lunar calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar. The celebration lasts for 15 days, from the first day of the lunar calendar to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day.

Before the Spring Festival, people usually clean their houses thoroughly and put up red decorations, which symbolize good luck and happiness. They also buy new clothes, prepare delicious food and snacks, and set off firecrackers to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.

On New Year's Eve, families gather together to have a big dinner called "reunion dinner". After dinner, they watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV, which is the most-watched TV show in China. At midnight, they set off fireworks to welcome the New Year.

During the 15-day celebration, people also visit their relatives and friends, exchange gifts, and give red envelopes filled with money to children as a blessing for good luck and happiness. They also participate in various traditional activities, such as dragon and lion dances, temple fairs, and lantern shows.
