Semiconductor Industry Research Internship: A Stepping Stone to Investment Banking

Furthermore, my recent internship experience in equity research at an investment bank has reinforced my confidence in possessing the necessary qualities and foundational knowledge to pursue further studies in economics. During this internship, I was entrusted with the task of conducting research on the semiconductor industry, utilizing office software and databases such as Winds. Despite being initially unfamiliar with the semiconductor sector, I endeavored to bridge the gap between economic principles and the intricacies of this field. The process proved more challenging than anticipated, as I encountered difficulties in data processing and report writing due to my limited domain-specific knowledge. However, I proactively sought guidance from my mentors and dedicated personal time outside of the internship to supplement my understanding of the semiconductor industry. Through this experience, I not only acquired the skills to apply economic principles in industry analysis but also cultivated a deeper appreciation for various sectors and gained a more nuanced comprehension of complex economic concepts.

Moreover, this internship afforded me a valuable insight into the realm of investment banking, ultimately leading me to crystallize my career aspirations. Looking ahead, I am determined to pursue a role within the Investment Banking Division (IBD) of an investment bank, specifically focusing on IPO-related financial work. Motivated by both a strong professional drive and an eagerness to expand my expertise, I have chosen to apply for the Berkeley Global Access Visiting Student Program as an opportunity to further broaden my horizons and acquire a more comprehensive understanding of the global financial landscape.
