why did Michael Murphy get the medal of honor

Michael Murphy received the Medal of Honor for his actions during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Despite being outnumbered and under intense enemy fire, Murphy exposed himself to enemy fire to make a call for support and then moved into open terrain to establish a better position to communicate with his headquarters. He was eventually mortally wounded, but his actions allowed his team to be rescued and saved the lives of many others.
