why did Audie Murphy get the medal of honor

Audie Murphy received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during World War II. On January 26, 1945, Murphy's company was attacked by six German tanks and waves of infantry. Despite being wounded, Murphy climbed on top of a burning tank destroyer and used its .50 caliber machine gun to hold off the German soldiers. He also directed artillery fire on the enemy tanks and called in air support. He single-handedly repelled the attack, killing or wounding 50 German soldiers and saving the lives of his fellow soldiers. For his bravery and leadership, Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest military honor in the United States
