The Tang Dynasty, regarded as the most glorious period of Chinese civilization by some historians, had its capital in Chang'an. Through exchanges with the Middle East, under its promotion, the Tang Dynasty made significant progress in literature and art in many fields. It was a golden era. The Tang Dynasty selected outstanding Confucian scholars through the imperial examination system to serve the government nationwide, and the government system of the Tang Dynasty also became increasingly perfect with the support of Confucian scholars. In the mid-8th century AD, the power of the Tang Dynasty began to decline.
