The utilization of the abundant amino groups in PEI through interfacial polymerization can be used to prepare nanofiltration membranes, or the surface of commercial nanofiltration membranes can be positively modified through the co-utilization of quaternary amine groups in EPTAC. Both methods effectively improve the separation performance of NF membranes for mono- and divalent cation systems, while exhibiting superior anti-fouling properties. These characteristics of positively charged nanofiltration membranes indicate their wide application in heavy metal wastewater treatment, water softening, and resource recovery.
