The Importance of Limiting Direct Quotations in Research Note-Taking
In taking notes, students often tend to excessively rely on direct quotation, leading to an excessive use of quotations in the final research paper. It is recommended that only a small portion, approximately 10%, of the final manuscript should consist of direct quotations. Consequently, it is advisable to minimize the verbatim transcription of source materials during note-taking (Lester, James D. 'Writing Research Papers.' 2nd ed.).
