In rural Chinese society, ritual is a socially recognized and appropriate behavioral norm, which is transmitted through generations of tradition and experience. Whether it is related to major events such as weddings or funerals, or minor interpersonal interactions, both emotions and rationality are embedded within the realm of ritual. When conflicts arise, resorting to legal means is often not the first option for individuals, as customary practices and ritual norms take priority. In this chapter, the resistance of Miaomiao is also first explored through the lens of ritual practices.
