Mitigating N2O Emissions from Agricultural Soils: A Key Strategy for Combating Climate Change
The application of chemical and organic fertilizers in agricultural soils is the largest anthropogenic source of N2O emissions, releasing an estimated 3-4 Tgᄋa-1. Alarmingly, these emissions continue to rise at a rate of 0.27 Tg per decade. With the global annual nitrogen fertilizer input reaching approximately 1.13ᅲ108 t, it's estimated that for every 100 kg applied, about 1 kg of nitrogen is released as N2O into the atmosphere. Given the urgency of addressing climate change, in-depth research on the factors influencing N2O emissions from agricultural soils is critical. Developing and implementing effective mitigation strategies is equally crucial to curb these emissions and mitigate their impact on the global climate.
