Abstract: In this study, sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol (SA/PVA) hydrogels were prepared via CaCO3 crosslinking. The effects of CaCO3 concentration, crosslinking time, and SA/PVA ratio on the properties of the hydrogels were investigated. The results showed that the swelling ratio and mechanical strength of the hydrogels increased with increasing CaCO3 concentration and crosslinking time, while the SA/PVA ratio had a significant effect on the swelling ratio but little effect on the mechanical strength. The hydrogels exhibited pH-responsive behavior and good biocompatibility. The SA/PVA hydrogels have potential applications in drug delivery and tissue engineering.
