The glymphatic system functions as a waste drainage system in the brain, facilitated by aquaporin-P4 (AQP4) water channels located in astrocytic end-feet5. Recent studies have explored the connection between gliomas and glymphatic system function6-8. Experiments with rodents have shown that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) outflow is reduced and dorsal meningeal lymphatic vessels undergo extensive remodeling6,8. Conversely, impaired glymphatic function may lead to the accumulation of toxic proteins, cytokines, and chemokines, which can further promote tumor growth9,10. Given that varying degrees of malignancy and aggressiveness in gliomas can result in different levels of damage and repair to the glymphatic system, we propose that there may be differences in glymphatic function between grades and IDH1 mutation statuses.
