How to play badminton
-
Start with the equipment: A badminton racket and shuttlecock are the essentials. A net, court, and comfortable shoes are also required.
-
Warm-up: Do some light stretching exercises to avoid injury.
-
Court set-up: The court is divided into two halves by a net. The standard size of the court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long.
-
Serving: The game starts with a serve. The server must stand behind the service line and hit the shuttlecock to the opponent's court diagonally.
-
Rally: After the serve, the players hit the shuttlecock back and forth over the net, trying to make it land on the opponent's court.
-
Scoring: A point is scored when the shuttlecock lands on the opponent's court, or when the opponent commits a fault.
-
Faults: A fault occurs when the shuttlecock lands outside the court, hits the net, or when the player commits a foot fault.
-
Winning: The game is won by the player who scores 21 points first, with a minimum lead of two points.
-
Doubles: In doubles, two players play on each side of the court, and the serve is alternated between the two teams.
-
Sportsmanship: Badminton is a sport that requires good sportsmanship. Players should respect their opponents, follow the rules, and play fair.
