On March 30th, the China Association for Science and Technology's Youth Talents Support Program 2023 report was held at the A105 Lecture Hall of the School of Fisheries at our university. The conference focused on the latest research achievements in various fields of aquaculture, chaired by Gao Jian, the Vice Dean of the School of Fisheries.

The conference invited five scholars including Wang Wenlei, Associate Professor of Jimei University, Tan Yuqing, Associate Professor of China Agricultural University, Li Ao, Researcher of the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Yiming, Assistant Researcher of the Fisheries Machinery and Instrument Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and Tu Xiao, Associate Professor of the School of Fisheries at our university, who gave academic presentations on their latest research in their respective fields.

Wang Wenlei presented his report on the analysis of the mature mechanism of Porphyra yezoensis and the cultivation of new varieties. He introduced the development of large-scale seaweed cultivation in China, the current situation of "good varieties difficult to cultivate" in Porphyra, and the latest research progress in Porphyra yezoensis seedling cultivation.

Tan Yuqing gave an academic report on the application and mechanism of fish processing by-products as a substitute nitrogen source for microbial culture media. The report discussed the difference in high-quality utilization of aquatic product processing by-products at home and abroad, and introduced the high-quality processing methods of fish head protein and the influence of fish processing by-products as a nitrogen source replacement on the growth of probiotics using silver carp as an example.

Li Ao presented a report on the mechanism of adaptive evolution and breeding application of oysters. The report mainly introduced the research status and progress of the evolutionary mechanism of quantitative traits and adaptive traits of oysters under environmental factors.

Li Yiming's academic report was on the analysis of the source of Japanese swamp shrimp and research on healthy breeding. The report focused on the source analysis of this shrimp and healthy breeding of Japanese swamp shrimp. He believed that the breeding method of catching large and leaving small and multi-generation breeding of breeding populations are the main reasons for the genetic degradation of Japanese swamp shrimp, and emphasized that genetic resources and the selection of good varieties are prerequisites for achieving large-scale breeding of prawns (Japanese swamp shrimp).

Tu Xiao's report was on the development of drugs for the prevention and control of important fish parasitic diseases. The report summarized the harm of fish parasitic diseases and the problems of current drug prevention and control, and reported a series of research works in the development of new drugs for monogenean and trematode diseases.

During the conference, teachers and students actively discussed and exchanged ideas on the report content. Finally, Professor Gao Jian made a summary of the conference. He emphasized that scientific research should focus on the major needs of industrial development, and carry out sustained research on scientific issues in the field.

The Youth Talents Support Program is a project implemented by the China Association for Science and Technology since 2015 to enhance the innovation and service capabilities of society for scientific and technological talents under the age of 32 with significant innovation ability and development potential, helping them become important reserve forces for national high-level scientific and technological leading talents and high-level innovation teams. Currently, the China Fisheries Society has undertaken four youth support projects, supporting 11 young talents.
