This study aims to provide a theoretical basis for effective winter wheat management to improve food and water security. To achieve this goal, we conducted a six-year field trial and analyzed the obtained data. Our study focused on three key factors. Firstly, we evaluated the yield and water use efficiency of three different irrigation treatments over a six-year period. Secondly, we aimed to identify the causes of yield differences among these treatments. Lastly, we determined the sources of interannual yield variability influenced by weather conditions. By investigating these factors, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the factors affecting winter wheat yield and water use efficiency, which can inform the development of more effective management strategies. This study is thus of great significance for promoting sustainable agriculture and ensuring global food and water security.
