The development of new media technologies has increased user engagement and fueled the rise of user-generated content (UGC). However, active user communities also give rise to certain risks. In my course on 'Media Ethics and Law,' I learned that legal regulations are often unable to keep pace with the rapid development of the internet industry. Without proper legal standards, UGC communities become increasingly chaotic. For instance, in the game 'One Dream Journey' by NetEase, players are allowed to create their own character appearances with the assistance of algorithms, but there is no corresponding legal protection for players' copyrights. I led a team in researching a related UGC legal dispute case. Our study revealed that when players profit from UGC or when their works are resold, there is a lack of legal protection, resulting in a distortion of the community's interactive ecosystem. This research experience profoundly influenced my understanding of new media and prompted me to contemplate how to effectively balance the vibrancy and order within user communities, in order to construct a more user-friendly community ecosystem – this is the original intention of new media work and its future.

I am well aware that practical skills are essential for creating an active, harmonious, and stable community product. Encouraged by my initial forays, I have operated two self-media accounts on Bilibili and TikTok. In addition to enhancing the quality of the content itself, I deliberately paid attention to the traffic mechanisms of these two platforms. I discovered that TikTok's recommendation system, centered around traffic, reduces user interaction. In contrast, Bilibili's traffic distribution mechanism is more balanced, with rich decentralized interest-based communities. Users can easily find like-minded individuals and deepen their social connections. As a result, I utilized this feature on my Bilibili account, creating videos based on the preferences of KPOP fans and actively engaging with viewers through comments. The result was a fan loyalty rate exceeding 96% compared to accounts of a similar nature. Moreover, this experience sparked my curiosity about how algorithmic mechanisms on different platforms impact community ecosystems.

Subsequently, my self-media operation experience was validated during my internship at NetEase Games. I was responsible for content management within the community of the game 'Harry Potter: Magic Awakening.' To improve user retention, I combined popular real-life topics with game themes, creating various community content such as comics and memos, and actively interacting with players. I established deep emotional connections with many players, making the decentralized game community more cohesive, resulting in a 10% increase in traffic compared to before. This achievement demonstrated my ability to innovate based on user needs. Importantly, it allowed me to explore the impact of new media on interpersonal relationships from a real-world perspective and solidified my desire to develop products that bridge the gap between individuals.
