Qingshan Ancient Town Renewal: Preserving History, Embracing the Future

The Qingshan Ancient Town area is undergoing a significant transformation as part of Wuhan's urban renewal initiative. Encompassing 3.5 square kilometers, the area is bounded by the Wugang Industrial Port to the east, the petrochemical plant area to the south, the Third Ring Road and Construction Road 11 to the west, and the Wuhui Embankment to the north.

This historic area witnessed the birth and growth of Qingshan, shaping its cultural identity. The renewal project prioritizes the preservation of the area's unique character, including the scenic 'Five Mountains and One River' landscape, the ancient town's traditional street and lane network, and the industrial heritage reflected in the shipyard spaces.

The renewal plan is built upon a comprehensive assessment of the area's existing assets and challenges. It adopts a 'retain, transform, and demolish' approach that extends beyond buildings to encompass the entire spatial environment. As one of the first renewal projects in the city to demonstrate tangible progress, the Qingshan Ancient Town initiative has received approval from both the Municipal Planning and Commission and the Municipal Update Leadership Group.
