Improving the Research on Perceived Organizational Support and Construction Workers' Safety Behavior
While this study contributes to understanding the impact of perceived organizational support on construction workers' safety behavior, there are still areas that require further supplementation and improvement. The research deficiencies can be primarily categorized as follows:
-
Generalizability and Data Collection: The data obtained in this study were limited to construction workers in southwest China, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, the self-completed questionnaire method used in data collection introduces the possibility of common methodological bias and raises concerns about the respondents' truthfulness and conscientiousness. To enhance the study, future research should increase the sample size and expand the geographical scope of data collection. Moreover, exploring more refined data collection techniques for individuals who may face difficulties in completing the questionnaire would improve the overall response rate and generalizability of the findings.
-
Causal Relationship and Study Design: The data used to test the proposed hypothesis are cross-sectional, highlighting the need for more longitudinal or experimental studies to establish a more definitive causal relationship between perceived organizational support and safety behavior. Such studies would provide deeper insights into the temporal dynamics of this relationship.
-
Mediating Variables and Mechanism: While this research examines the role of safety climate in the relationship between perceived organizational support and construction workers' safety behavior, other mediating variables, such as group knowledge sharing and individual culture, may also play important roles. Future investigations should explore these mediating variables to further understand how perceived organizational support influences safety behavior among construction workers. Additionally, examining the relationship between perceived organizational support and safety behavior at the group or organizational level would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.
