What is consequentialism

Consequentialism is a moral theory that evaluates the morality of an action based on its consequences or outcomes. It holds that the moral worth of an action is determined by the amount of good it produces in terms of promoting happiness, well-being, and pleasure, or reducing suffering, pain, and harm. In other words, an action is considered morally right if it produces the best possible outcome or consequences, regardless of the intentions or motives behind the action. The most well-known form of consequentialism is utilitarianism, which aims to maximize overall happiness or pleasure for the greatest number of people.
