In this study, carboxyl-functionalized ionic liquid [Hbet][Tf2N] was used as the leaching agent for the problem at hand. The alkaline decomposition-[Hbet][Tf2N] leaching method was employed to extract rare earth elements, which reduced the adverse effects of fluorine elements during the leaching process and achieved a higher rare earth element leaching rate. Moreover, [Hbet][Tf2N] can be recycled, effectively reducing costs and providing a new approach for the smelting of fluorocarbon cerium ores.
