Climate Change

Climate change is a long-term alteration in the Earth's climate, primarily due to human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agriculture. These activities release greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere, trapping heat and causing global temperatures to rise.

The effects of climate change are widespread and include rising sea levels, more frequent and severe weather events such as hurricanes and droughts, and changes in ecosystems and biodiversity. These effects can have significant impacts on human health, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Efforts to mitigate climate change include reducing greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy and energy efficiency, carbon capture and storage, and reforestation. Adaptation measures include building sea walls, improving water management, and developing drought-resistant crops.

International efforts to address climate change include the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. These agreements aim to limit global temperature increases to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C, while also providing support for developing countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Despite these efforts, climate change continues to pose a significant threat to the planet and its inhabitants. Urgent action is needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.
