Every year we have a family party by the lake. This year we decided to tell stories. Uncle Leroy said everyone must brag (夸大), which would make the stories 'funnier'. He said the person who told the best tall tale would get a 'prize'. We sat in a big circle. Each one of us 'took' a turn to tell our stories. Mom began telling her story, 'I caught a fish that was five feet long.' 'Actually' she caught only a little goldfish. My sister bragged, 'I was chosen to be in the Miss Florida beauty competition.' My brother 'laughed at' her and said she was in a school fashion show.

Then it’s my cousin’s 'turn'. Uncle Leroy said, 'I swam a mile to save a dog in a serious flood (洪水).' We knew it was not a flood. Street drains (沟) near his house got stopped up. A dog was 'moving' in the water with two other dogs.

We told stories until it got 'dark'. It was a lot of fun, and we laughed a lot. Uncle Leroy was glad that everybody told a good story. Then it was time to chose the 'winner'. He said that all of us told such good stories that we would all get a prize. He 'gave' us shirts that said 'Best Family Tall Tale'.
