CDK8 and CDK19: Closely Related Kinases Regulating Gene Expression

Cyclin-dependent kinase 8 (CDK8) and cyclin-dependent kinase 19 (CDK19) are two closely related members of the cyclin-dependent kinase family. They share a high degree of sequence similarity and are both involved in the regulation of gene expression. CDK8 and CDK19 are often co-regulated and co-expressed in cells, and they have been shown to form a complex together called the CDK8 module. This module is involved in the regulation of transcription by interacting with transcription factors and chromatin remodeling complexes. While both CDK8 and CDK19 have similar functions, they can have distinct roles in different cellular contexts.
