The main objective of this problem is to minimize the weight of a tension/compression spring. As shown in Fig. A.3, this problem involves three design variables: wire diameter (d), mean coil diameter (D), and the number of active coils (P). The mathematical representation of this problem is shown in Eq. (A.3).
