What is 'Mounted' in Software? Explained

'Mounted' refers to a method of accessing software on a host computer. Instead of being directly installed on the host, the software is installed and configured on a different computer but can be accessed by the host via a network connection. This means the host computer doesn't need to have the software files physically stored on it.

For example, a user might mount a software program located on a server to their local computer. This allows them to run the software without having to download and install it locally.

In contrast to mounting, a software installation program directly installs the software on the host computer. This involves downloading the software files to the host and configuring the necessary settings.

The host computer, in general, is the computer running the software. Whether the software is mounted or installed directly, the host computer is the device that is ultimately utilizing the software.
