题目:
It is more important for school children to learn about their local history than world history. Do you agree or disagree? Give your opinion and examples.
范文:
It is hard to deny that studying local history can help school children form a strong sense of cultural belonging and identity, and such a fact leads impressionable people to generate the opinion that young people should learn about their local history rather than world history in school. However, such a statement suffers from logical and factual fallacies and should be examined meticulously. As far as globalization, social skills and innovation are concerned, I strongly hold that it is more important for school children to learn about world history than local history.
First and foremost, with the development of technology, the trend of globalization is hard to avoid for people around the world, we should let young children gain a basic understanding of the world culture. To be more specific, the connections among different countries are become more and more close, international trade has become an important way for a country to develop its economy. As a result, if people do not gain a better understanding of other countries’ history, they are unwilling to cooperate with people from different countries, they will feel disconnected from the world, which would lead to conflicts and tensions. Therefore, it is essential for school children to develop a value of multicultural.
Furthermore, history is a critical part of history, people who are exposed to different histories can learn about different beliefs and values. If people have a chance to communicate with people from different backgrounds, they will realize that what they learn from school is vital and can be applied to real life, it is likely for school children to enhance their ability to stand in others' shoes, which is an essential social skill. In addition, such ability can help them build trust and understanding with each other. In that way, people are more prefer to live in harmony and reduce barriers to communication. As a result, people around the world are more compatible with making more friends.
Nevertheless, a voice arises that learning about local history can help students develop a strong sense of cultural belonging and identity. Ironically, people who only know about a narrow history are unlikely to have the courage to challenge old ideas and become less innovative, then they easily lose their advantages when competing for jobs in a global market. Therefore, people who gain a better understanding of the world are more open-minded and creative.
In a nutshell, I maintain that children should learn world history in school rather than local history. Admittedly, as my favorite quote from James Madison goes, 'as long as the reason of man continues to fallible, different opinions will be formed, and some people may oppose me'. However, I believe they will compromise after being exposed to my article.
Essay Evaluation:
Overall, the essay presents a clear argument and provides relevant examples to support the author's viewpoint. The essay structure is well-organized, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The language used is generally appropriate and demonstrates a good range of vocabulary. However, there are areas that could be improved to enhance the essay's coherence and clarity.
Strengths:
- Clear position: The author takes a clear stance on the topic and maintains their viewpoint throughout the essay.2. Organization: The essay has a clear structure, with each paragraph presenting a distinct idea that supports the main argument.3. Examples and reasoning: The essay provides relevant examples and logical reasoning to support the argument, emphasizing the importance of world history in the context of globalization, social skills, and innovation.
Areas for improvement:
- Grammar and sentence structure: There are some grammatical errors and awkward sentence structures that can be improved for better clarity.2. Coherence and flow: Some paragraphs lack smooth transitions, leading to a slightly disjointed flow of ideas. Ensuring better coherence between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence of the essay.3. Counterargument and refutation: While the essay acknowledges a potential opposing viewpoint, it could benefit from a stronger counterargument and more robust refutation to effectively address the opposing perspective.
Suggestions for revision:
- Revise complex sentence structures and grammar errors to improve sentence clarity and fluency.2. Use transitional phrases to enhance the flow of ideas and improve coherence between paragraphs.3. Strengthen the counterargument by providing more specific and concrete examples to address the viewpoint of those who advocate for studying local history.4. Consider addressing potential counterarguments in a separate paragraph to further strengthen the argumentative structure.
Overall, with a few revisions and improvements, this essay would be more coherent and persuasive in presenting the argument that learning world history is more important for school children than focusing solely on local history.
