Intelligent Parking Management System Based on Internet of Things: Design and Implementation

Abstract: With the rapid development of urbanization, the problem of parking has become increasingly prominent. To solve this problem, an intelligent parking management system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) is proposed in this paper. The system consists of three parts: parking lot information collection, parking guidance and reservation, and parking lot management. The information collection part uses various sensors to collect real-time information on the occupancy of parking spaces. The guidance and reservation part provides drivers with real-time parking guidance and reservation services through mobile terminals. The management part provides parking lot managers with real-time monitoring of parking lot information and data analysis functions. The system leverages advanced technologies such as IoT, cloud computing, and big data analysis to achieve intelligent parking management, improving the efficiency of parking management and providing a more convenient and comfortable parking experience for drivers.

Introduction:

The rapid development of urbanization has resulted in a significant increase in the number of vehicles on the road, leading to the growing problem of parking. Traditional parking management methods, typically manual, are inefficient and prone to errors. To address this challenge, the development of an intelligent parking management system is essential.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new generation of information technology that connects various physical objects through the internet. It offers intelligent perception, ubiquitous connectivity, and real-time interaction capabilities. Applying IoT in the field of parking management can significantly enhance the efficiency of parking management.

This paper proposes an intelligent parking management system based on IoT. The system comprises three main parts: parking lot information collection, parking guidance and reservation, and parking lot management. The information collection part utilizes various sensors to collect real-time data on the occupancy of parking spaces. The guidance and reservation part provides drivers with real-time parking guidance and reservation services through mobile terminals. The management part provides parking lot managers with real-time monitoring of parking lot information and data analysis functions.

System Architecture:

The architecture of the intelligent parking management system based on IoT is depicted in Figure 1. The system consists of three parts: parking lot information collection, parking guidance and reservation, and parking lot management.

Parking Lot Information Collection:

The information collection part is responsible for gathering real-time data on the occupancy of parking spaces. This information collection is primarily achieved through the use of various sensors, including ultrasonic sensors, magnetic sensors, and infrared sensors. These sensors are installed on the ground of each parking space and can detect the presence or absence of a vehicle in real time. The collected data is transmitted to the cloud server through the internet, enabling real-time updates of the parking lot occupancy information.

Parking Guidance and Reservation:

The guidance and reservation part provides drivers with real-time parking guidance and reservation services via mobile terminals. When a driver enters the parking lot, the system detects the vehicle's license plate number using a camera and then identifies the driver's identity through the license plate number. Based on the occupancy information of parking spaces, the system provides the driver with real-time parking guidance. Drivers can also reserve a parking space in advance through the mobile terminal. When the driver arrives at the reserved parking space, the system automatically opens the gate and guides the driver to the reserved spot.

Parking Lot Management:

The management part provides parking lot managers with real-time monitoring of parking lot information and data analysis functions. Using the management platform, managers can monitor the occupancy of parking spaces, the number of vehicles entering and leaving the parking lot, and the parking lot's revenue in real time. The system also provides data analysis functions to analyze the occupancy rate of parking spaces, the utilization rate of the parking lot, and the parking lot's revenue. This data supports parking lot management decision-making.

Conclusion:

This paper proposes an intelligent parking management system based on IoT. The system consists of three parts: parking lot information collection, parking guidance and reservation, and parking lot management. The system utilizes advanced technologies such as IoT, cloud computing, and big data analysis to achieve intelligent parking management, improving the efficiency of parking management and providing a more convenient and comfortable parking experience for drivers. The system has great potential for application in parking management in urban areas.
