Abstract:

We investigate the emission characteristics of self-trapped excitons under multiphoton excitation, especially the competition mechanism in the presence of triplets. By theoretical calculation and experimental measurement, we find that the emission of self-trapped excitons can contain both singlet and triplet components simultaneously, and this mixed emission mechanism is determined by the competition between triplet annihilation and singlet fission. Moreover, we also find that the emission intensity of self-trapped excitons can be greatly enhanced when triplets exist, due to the promotion of singlet fission by triplets, which increases the generation rate of excitons. These results provide new insights and methods for a deeper understanding of the emission mechanism of self-trapped excitons under multiphoton excitation
