Introduction: Lung cancer is a significant global health concern, and its incidence and mortality rates continue to rise. Diet has been recognized as a modifiable risk factor that may contribute to the development and progression of lung cancer. Understanding the relationship between lung cancer and diet is crucial for developing effective prevention and intervention strategies. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the scientific literature on the topic by employing bibliometric analysis.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the Web of Science database using relevant keywords related to lung cancer and diet. The search was limited to articles published between 2010 and 2020. A total of 500 articles were selected for analysis. VOSviewer was used to visualize the co-authorship network, CiteSpace was used for identifying research trends and major themes, and Bibliometrix was used for statistical analysis.
Results: The analysis revealed a network of co-authorship among researchers working on lung cancer and diet. The most productive authors and influential institutions were identified. The United States and China were found to be the leading countries in terms of research output. The analysis also identified several research clusters, including the impact of specific dietary components, dietary patterns, and the role of nutrition in lung cancer prevention and treatment.
Discussion: The findings suggest that there is a growing interest in studying the relationship between lung cancer and diet. The identified research clusters highlight the various aspects of this relationship, indicating the multidisciplinary nature of the field. Collaborations among researchers and institutions are essential for advancing knowledge in this area. Future research should focus on investigating the mechanisms underlying the association between specific dietary factors and lung cancer, as well as exploring the potential of dietary interventions in lung cancer management.
Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific literature on the relationship between lung cancer and diet. The findings highlight current research trends, major themes, and collaborations in this field. The study contributes to the understanding of the current state of knowledge on the topic and provides valuable insights for researchers and policymakers interested in lung cancer prevention and treatment strategies.
