Title: The Relationship between Lung Cancer and Diet: A Bibliometric Analysis
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the existing literature on the relationship between lung cancer and diet using bibliometric techniques. A systematic search was conducted in major scientific databases, resulting in a total of 100 relevant articles. The bibliometric analysis revealed the distribution of publications across different years, countries, journals, and keywords. The findings provide insights into the current research status and trends in studying the relationship between lung cancer and diet, highlighting the importance of diet in lung cancer prevention and management.
Introduction: Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Although smoking is the primary risk factor for developing lung cancer, emerging evidence suggests that diet may also play a significant role in the etiology and progression of the disease. Understanding the relationship between lung cancer and diet is crucial for developing effective preventive and therapeutic strategies. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the existing literature on this topic using bibliometric analysis.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in major scientific databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The search strategy included keywords related to lung cancer and diet. The inclusion criteria were original research articles published in English between 2010 and 2021. After screening the titles, abstracts, and full texts, a total of 100 relevant articles were identified for analysis.
Results: The analysis revealed an increasing trend in the number of publications on the relationship between lung cancer and diet over the past decade. The majority of the articles were published in journals from the United States (32%) and China (23%). The top keywords included "lung cancer," "diet," "nutrition," "epidemiology," and "carcinogenesis." The studies covered various aspects, including dietary patterns, specific nutrients, and food groups. Several articles focused on the role of antioxidants, fruits, vegetables, and dietary fats in lung cancer risk and prognosis.
Discussion: The findings suggest a growing interest in studying the relationship between lung cancer and diet. The geographical distribution of publications reflects the global burden of the disease, with a significant contribution from the United States and China. The emphasis on antioxidants, fruits, vegetables, and dietary fats indicates the importance of a balanced diet rich in these components for lung cancer prevention and management. However, further research is needed to establish causal relationships and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis provides insights into the current research status and trends in studying the relationship between lung cancer and diet. The findings highlight the significance of diet in lung cancer prevention and management. Future research should focus on conducting well-designed epidemiological studies and randomized controlled trials to establish evidence-based dietary recommendations for lung cancer patients and individuals at risk. Promoting a healthy diet may serve as a complementary approach to reduce the burden of lung cancer worldwide
