r a month. I’m sick and tired of living like this. (Suddenly, a golden fish jumps out of the sea and speaks to the fisherman) Golden Fish: Please don’t eat me, I’m a magic fish. If you release me back into the sea, I’ll grant you a wish. Fisherman: (Surprised) A talking fish? And it can grant wishes? Well, I’m not going to eat you. (Releases the fish back into the sea) Scene 2 (The fisherman goes back home and tells his wife about the golden fish and its offer) Fisherman: You won’t believe what happened today. I caught a golden fish and it can grant wishes. Fisherman’s Wife: (Greedy) Really? Well, what are you waiting for? Go back and ask for a big house and lots of money. Fisherman: But we already have a small but comfortable home. Why do we need more? Fisherman’s Wife: (Angry) You fool! I want a big house and lots of money, and I want it now! Go back and ask for it! Fisherman: (Sighs) Alright, I’ll go back and ask. (Goes back to the sea and calls for the golden fish) Golden Fish: What is your wish, fisherman? Fisherman: My wife wants a big house and lots of money. Golden Fish: Your wish is granted. (The fisherman goes back home to find a big mansion and lots of money waiting for them) Scene 3 (The fisherman’s wife is still not satisfied and asks for more wishes) Fisherman’s Wife: This house is not big enough, I want a bigger one. And I want servants and a carriage. Go back and ask for it! Fisherman: But we have everything we need now. Can’t we be content with what we have? Fisherman’s Wife: (Angrier) You coward! Go back and ask for it now! Fisherman: (Sighs) Alright, I’ll go back and ask. (Goes back to the sea and calls for the golden fish) Golden Fish: What is your wish, fisherman? Fisherman: My wife wants a bigger house, servants and a carriage. Golden Fish: Your wish is granted. (The fisherman goes back home to find a bigger mansion, more servants and a carriage waiting for them) Scene 4 (The fisherman’s wife is still not satisfied and asks for more wishes) Fisherman’s Wife: This carriage is not good enough, I want a better one. And I want to be a queen. Go back and ask for it! Fisherman: But that’s impossible! How can you be a queen? Fisherman’s Wife: (Screaming) You idiot! Go back and ask for it now! Fisherman: (Resigned) Alright, I’ll go back and ask. (Goes back to the sea and calls for the golden fish) Golden Fish: What is your wish, fisherman? Fisherman: My wife wants a better carriage and to be a queen. Golden Fish: Your wish is granted. (The fisherman goes back home to find a better carriage and his wife is now a queen) Scene 5 (The fisherman’s wife is still not satisfied and asks for more wishes) Fisherman’s Wife: I want to be a empress and live in a palace. Go back and ask for it! Fisherman: (Desperate) But we have everything we need now! Please, let’s be content with what we have. Fisherman’s Wife: (Furious) How dare you talk to me like that? Go back and ask for it now! Fisherman: (Defeated) Alright, I’ll go back and ask. (Goes back to the sea and calls for the golden fish) Golden Fish: What is your wish, fisherman? Fisherman: My wife wants to be an empress and live in a palace. Golden Fish: Your wish is granted. (The fisherman goes back home to find his wife now living in a palace as an empress) Scene 6 (The fisherman’s wife is still not satisfied and asks for more wishes) Fisherman’s Wife: I want to be the ruler of the whole world. Go back and ask for it! Fisherman: (Hopeless) That’s impossible! We have everything we need now, can’t we be grateful for it? Fisherman’s Wife: (Enraged) You are nothing but a useless, cowardly fisherman! Go back and ask for it now! Fisherman: (Broken) Alright, I’ll go back and ask. (Goes back to the sea and calls for the golden fish) Golden Fish: What is your wish, fisherman? Fisherman: My wife wants to be the ruler of the whole world. Where is my palace? Fisherman: (Sad) The golden fish has revoked your wish. We are back to where we started. Fisherman’s Wife: (Regretful) I’m sorry for being so greedy and ungrateful. I’ve learned my lesson. From now on, I’ll be content with what I have. Fisherman: (Smiling) That’s good to hear. We may not have everything, but we have each other and that’s all that matters.
