The growing concern over energy conservation and environmental protection has prompted the substitution of refrigerants. Mixed refrigerants that contain hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), a fourth-generation refrigerant, are considered a promising development trend. Two HFOs, R1234ze(E) and R1336mzz(E), are representative environmentally friendly refrigerants. The vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) is the key to researching the new mixed refrigerant composed of these two HFOs.
In this study, a set of experimental devices was built based on the liquid phase circulation method to measure the VLE data of eleven kinds of R1234ze(E)/R1336mzz(E) mixed refrigerants with different ratios. These data are completely new in the existing literature. The temperature range was between 283.15~313.15 K.
Furthermore, the experimental data was correlated using two models: the Peng-Robinson (PR) equation of state combined with the van der Waals (vdW) mixing rule and the PR equation of state combined with the Huron-Vidal (HV) mixing rule involving the non-random two-liquid (NRTL) activity coefficient. Both models provided good results, with the second model showing better agreement with the experimental data. These findings indicate that there is no azeotropic phenomenon within the temperature range of R1234ze(E)/R1336mzz(E) mixed refrigerants.
In conclusion, the study provides valuable insights into the properties of mixed refrigerants that contain HFOs. The results suggest that these refrigerants have the potential to be a viable option for energy conservation and environmental protection, and further research is warranted to explore their potential applications. This work is of significant relevance to the energy and environmental industries and will contribute to the development of more sustainable refrigeration technologies
