who was Samuel Cox Lincoln assassination

Samuel Cox was not directly involved in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, but he did play a role in the escape of John Wilkes Booth, the assassin. Cox was a Confederate sympathizer and had been involved in various Confederate plots, including a plan to burn down New York City. After the assassination, Booth and his accomplice, David Herold, fled to Cox's farm in Maryland, where they received aid and shelter before continuing their escape. Cox was later arrested and imprisoned but was eventually released without charges.
