Driving Difficulties and ADAS Acceptance: A Comprehensive Analysis of Individual Factors
This study reveals that different types of driving difficulties have various positive and negative effects on drivers' utilization of ADAS. Significant differences in driving difficulties are found among different genders, driving distances, and age groups. Visual impairment and reaction abilities are identified as the most influential factors affecting driving difficulty. Previous research on the acceptance of ADAS mainly focused on surface-level investigations of age and gender. For instance, AbrahamH [4] found that younger individuals are more willing to pay for ADAS compared to older individuals, and SonJ [6] discovered that males exhibit higher acceptance levels than females based on surveys considering age, gender, and road environment. While these studies have provided valuable insights, they are relatively similar in nature. This study takes a different approach by examining driving difficulties as the primary factor and incorporating secondary factors such as age and gender, allowing for a more detailed and comprehensive investigation of the underlying factors influencing drivers' utilization of ADAS. However, it is important to note that the data in this study was obtained solely through questionnaire surveys, which may introduce subjective biases, and no physical experiments were conducted with the drivers, leading to potential data imperfections. Future research can consider integrating driving simulation techniques to evaluate drivers' usage of ADAS and assess risks associated with autonomous driving, considering the real-world conditions of the overall traffic infrastructure.
