In 2013, some scholars began to combine the study of purpose with the research of movie subtitles. Huang Qiao, for example, analyzed the translation strategies under the purpose theory using the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" as an example. The author chose this movie because it won an Oscar award, which made it a Chinese movie that went abroad, and the subtitle translation played an indispensable role. At the same time, the movie contains many cultural factors, which posed challenges during the translation process.
