By 2013, some scholars began to combine the study of translation theory with film subtitling. Using the example of the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Huang Qiao analyzed the translation strategies under the purpose theory. The author chose this movie because it won an Oscar award and became a representative Chinese film that went abroad, with the subtitling translation being essential. At the same time, this film has a lot of cultural factors, which posed challenges in the translation process.
