In 2013, some scholars began to combine functionalist approaches with the study of film subtitles. Huang Qiao used the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" as an example to analyze translation strategies under functionalism. The author chose this film because it won an Oscar, and as a Chinese film, its subtitle translation played an important role in its international success. Additionally, the film contains many cultural elements, which posed challenges for the translation process.
